The fall of Andrew Bynum

The day after the LA Lakers traded C Andrew Bynum to the Philadelphia 76ers and in exchange got then Magic C Dwight Howard, ESPN’s Skip Bayless said that the Lakers would regret the trade because Bynum was a far better player than Howard. Almost ¾ of the way through the season, Howard is leading the league in rebounds per game and 5th in blocks while Bynum has and will not play this season after the 76ers announced yesterday he will have surgery on both knees. Do you regret your words now Mr. Bayless?
In Bynum’s seven years with the Lakers, he had repeated issues with coaching staff and showed his immaturity in the playoff game against the Dallas Mavericks when he let his anger get the best of him and knocked Mavs G Jose Barea. He averaged around 50 games per season with the Lakers but with all of the hype that he had, he only averaged almost 12.0 ppg and 8 rpg.  The Lakers were glad to get rid of a guy that had so much talent but didn’t know how to be effective with it.
Last offseason when he was dealt to the 76ers, Bynum told fans in a news conference about how he was so excited and thrilled to play for the team.
Enter Bynum’s greatest villain, his knees. Bynum has had multiple surgeries on both knees and last September went to Germany to have an injection in both knees. He was supposed to be sidelined until mid- December but that date was pushed back multiple times. The reason why.. Well he thought it was smart to go bowling. Good job Mr. Bynum! Let’s go bowling after having an injection in your knees. You see the difference between Bynum and Chicago Bulls PG Derrick Rose is that Rose is actually rehabilitating as hard as he can just to get back on the court while Bynum just thinks that it is all a joke and he can do whatever he wants.
Andrew Bynum has shown flashes of an All-Star when healthy but the problem is, he is never healthy. His knees are an ongoing issue and he might have to call his career quits soon.
The 76ers made a huge gamble in the offseason when they traded for Bynum. It failed. But good news for the 76ers is that he is an unrestricted free agent after this season and the 76ers should not resign him. Actually, no team should sign him until he proves that he is a big boy and not a kid anymore.
