Wrestling will be dropped from olympic competition starting in 2020

The International Olympic Committee has decided to drop wrestling from Olympic competition starting in 2020. By eliminating wrestling, the IOC now has the option to add another sport, which was the main reason why wrestling will be dropped.
According to sources that spoke on anonymity to the Associated Press, wrestling was eliminated out of a group that included field hockey, modern pentathlon, and taekwondo.
Wrestling has been in the Olympics since the first modern Olympics in 1896 in Athens.  At last year’s London Olympics, 344 athletes participated in 11 medal events.
