Gonzaga makes history

There is a new #1 atop the AP poll as the Gonzaga Bulldogs received 51 first place votes this morning as previously #1 Indiana Hoosiers fell to #2. It is the first time in school history that Gonzaga is #1.
The success of the Zags all starts with their head coach, Mark Few. Few, in his 14th year with the team, already has the most wins in school history with 371 and has been named WCC Coach of the Year nine times. Gonzaga has also been regular season champions in the WCC in all but two years under Few. He also taken his team to the Sweet Sixteen five times but has yet to make it to the elite eight.
This season, Gonzaga has been dominate as they have impressive wins over Kansas St. and Oklahoma St. and are 16-0 in conference play. It’s not only how the Bulldogs are winning but it is also the margin as they their average margin of victory is 18. They rank 9th in the NCAA in points per game at 78.4 per game and are 3rd in field goal percentage at 50.5.
The Zags 1-2 punch of junior forwards Kelly Olynyk and Elias Harris combine for 32 points per game and 14 rebounds per game. Guard Kevin Pangos is a streaky shooter but does shoot 42.5 % from behind the arc.
Gonzaga will most likely have a number one seed entering the NCAA Tournament. This team will be looking to make it past the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in school history but if right now indicates how Gonzaga will look in the tournament; the Bulldogs could make a deep run in the tournament.
