I knew all along that Chip Kelly would be the perfect fit
for the Philadelphia Eagles. I was a bit surprised when Kelly told Oregon that
he would remain at the school earlier this month. But this morning, Kelly
changed his mind and was hired as coach of the Eagles. I think it will be a
great move for the Eagles.

Success
couldn’t even describe what Kelly did at Oregon as he brought a football
program that had never been a football powerhouse into one of the best programs
in the nation. What is incredible about what Kelly did for Oregon is that he
did it in only four years with the Ducks.
He had a 46-7 record in his four years with the team and 33-3 in PAC-12
play including three PAC-12 Championships. In his four years with the Ducks,
they made a BCS bowl appearance every year including a national championship
appearance and a Rose Bowl victory. His no huddle offense was a nightmare for
opposing teams as they were in the top 10 in scoring in all four years. Now why
would Kelly leave Oregon?
All coaches
dream of one day coaching in the NFL and Kelly saw that with Pete Carroll
leaving USC for the Seattle Seahawks and Jim Harbaugh going from Stanford to
the San Francisco 49ers. The Eagles have an offense that could fit Kelly’s
style as they have a lot of playmakers and players with explosive ability. With
RB LeSean McCoy, WR DeSean Jackson, and WR Jeremy Maclin the Eagles could have
one of the most entertaining offense in the league next year. Will Kelly keep
QB Michael Vick who would be a perfect fit but has injury problems, or would he
change his offense to fit QB Nick Foles who is more of a pure pocket passer.
There is also the possibility that the Eagles explore free agency or draft QB
Geno Smith.
It seems as
if Kelly has switched birds, going from the Ducks to the Eagles. The question
is: can these Eagles fly to the endzone?
