Lance Armstrong |
Today, Lance Armstrong reportedly came out in an interview
with Oprah Winfrey and said that he took performance and enhancing drugs.
Armstrong had been investigated for using PED’s for the past decade but he has
never tested positive for a test. He was stripped of his seven Tour De France
titles and banned from the sport. Although he reportedly admitted to taking
drugs, I still believe that Armstrong is innocent.
You have to
understand the circumstances: Armstrong was being investigated for several
years and he came out and said that it was affecting his life. He was tired of
people saying stuff that was not true and wanted to live his life peacefully
with his family. He also was banned from triathlons, which he has started to do
in the past couple of years. He can’t participate in marathons either, which he
has also started doing after he retired from cycling.
Armstrong
is not like Barry Bonds as he has never been rude to critics and has always
treated reporters with respect. Bonds has been constantly rude since being
investigated for use of steroids when he played for the San Francisco Giants.
There is
one instance that I can think of that maybe Armstrong had been given steroids.
I am not saying this with any disrespect what so ever but maybe he was injected
with PEDs when he was in the hospital with cancer. I am not saying I know that
for a fact because I don’t know but it could be a possibility.
Armstrong
has done so much for the cycling community and for cancer as he has made
professional cycling a phenomenon and has donated tons of money towards cancer
research with his LiveStrong foundation.
It will be
very interesting to hear Armstrong’s interview with Oprah on Thursday and we
will finally find out the truth. For now, I am still a fan of Lance and will
always see him as a positive figure.
